NORCURE DESALINIZATION AND REALKALIZATION
ROUTE 90 UNDERPASS AT PORTAGE AVENUE,
WINNIPEG, MB
The Norcure Electrochemical Chloride Removal System was installed and operated on the retaining wall of the Route 90
underpass at Portage Avenue between July 23rd and November 1st, 1991.
The system only operated effectively for 36 days due to delays and freezing weather, and thus does not give true results for a
full treatment. The results obtained did show that significant amounts of the chlorides were removed at the reinforcing steel,
even with the shortened installation and that chlorides were removed from the entire area treated.
Corrosion potential surveys have been completed before and after treatment. Corrosion potentials measured in the treated
area are substantially lower than the original readings and are now all well below the 350 mV level indicating serious corrosion
potential.
